After having been selected to inaugurate the Festival in Santiago, La Soga , brought down the house, a full and enthusiastic house at that, when it showed at the National Theater in Santo Domingo.   

It was Saturday night, November 21, several hours before the closing of the III Dominican Republic Global Film Festival. With the majority of the film’s cast and crew in the audience, all of them looking extremely satisfied before and after the screening, one can say without equivocation that film and this event marked a clear before and after in terms of filmmaking in the DR.  

Months before its premiere, La Soga had awakened a great deal of interest and commentary; expectations were growing with each week that passed. For that reason, it was one of the biggest choices for the Festival and, indeed, that choice turned out to be an excellent one. 

During the nearly 2-hour screening, there was a deep connection between the viewing audience and the story being told on the screen. Familiar situations, locations known by everyone, Dominican expressions, the aesthetics of the country, the local music and an endless list of details occurring on screen as the story and life of La Soga , the protagonist, unfolded.   

The satisfaction was such that the feeling between the audience and cast was palpable. Once the movie ended, the director joined the cast and crew on stage. It was not the question-and-answer session as expected. One after the other, viewers who were handed the microphone, could do nothing but praise the film. The kind words or congratulations were spoken with great warmth and with the desire that the Dominican film industry continues down this same path, with this same high quality that will surely propel the country’s productions to the level of those from other countries around the world.
